Integrated River Basin Management Society, IRBMS is a Non Govt. Organization working in the field of conservation of natural resources through sustainable development. IRBMS was formed in 2009 under West Bengal Societies Registration Act 1961. Different water basins across the country suffer from unplanned economic development which affect the local ecosystems severely in turn destroy the natural resource base of the river basins and ruin the livelihood opportunities of the people residing there. The Integrated River Basin Management is the main aim promoted by the IRBMS. It encourages a holistic approach addressing, in addition to quality of rivers, lakes, transitional waters, coastal waters and groundwater, pressures within the catchment of various rivers due to human activities that may cause deterioration or provide risk to water and its ecology. The sustainable natural resource management of both terrestrial and aquatic habitats is the main focus of IRBMS. The other objective of the organization is to undertake, carry out, promote and sponsor sustainable rural and/or urban development including program for promoting social and economic welfare of the upliftment of the river basin people.
